Police Operations in PP Koblenz amidst Snow and Ice Conditions (10:30 a.m. Update)
The weather conditions in Koblenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, on January 5, 2025, led to a slightly higher than normal number of weather-related traffic accidents. Between the hours of 4:00 AM and 10:30 AM, a total of 17 accidents occurred in the Koblenz Police Precinct (PP) area. One of these accidents resulted in minor injuries to one individual in the Cochem area. The accidents were primarily due to freezing rain and ice glazing that began in the early hours of the morning, leading to slippery road conditions and causing vehicles to lose control. In a more severe incident, a truck (semi-trailer) slid off the B 262 between the A 48 (Mayen interchange) and Mayen, ending up in the ditch. The B 262 was fully closed between 6:30 AM and 9:45 AM due to the recovery of the semi-trailer. Road maintenance crews and volunteer fire departments worked tirelessly to clear branches and trees from the roadways, helping to minimize traffic disruptions. Their efforts, combined with adapted driving behavior, ensured that the disruptions remained within acceptable limits. Isolated instances of snow breakage were reported in the higher elevations of the Eifel (near the Nurburgring) and the Westerwald.
