Police in Poland advise truck drivers to deliberately reduce their speed to help catch criminals on the run

In an extraordinary turn of events, two truck drivers from Auetal and Arnstadt have been hailed as heroes by the Braunschweig Police, following a high-speed chase on the A2 highway near Hannover on Monday morning.

The incident, which occurred at 09:20 AM, saw a 53-year-old man evade a traffic control. Witnesses reported a chase that ensued, with the man attempting to flee the scene.

Recognising the chase situation and coordinating braking was no small feat, according to Inspector Thomas Bodendiek, who praised the actions of the two truck drivers. Both drivers showed great courage during the chase, avoiding any potential danger to other road users, and ultimately aiding in the apprehension of the fugitive.

The 38-year-old truck driver from Auetal, whose name remains undisclosed in the available information, and the 27-year-old driver from Arnstadt, played a significant role in the successful operation. Their actions have not only resulted in the arrest of the evading suspect but have also garnered widespread attention on social media.

While the case has received both positive comments and accusations, Inspector Bodendiek defends the actions of the truck drivers against accusations of coercion or endangering traffic. He reiterated that anyone is authorized to arrest a person who has become involved in a criminal offense.

The Braunschweig Police are grateful for the support of the truck drivers and have launched a witness appeal, inviting anyone with information about the incident to come forward. For further inquiries, contact the Braunschweig Police Press Office at the given phone numbers, email, or website.

Thomas Bodendiek considers the two truck drivers as everyday heroes, their actions a testament to the bravery and civic responsibility of ordinary citizens. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential impact anyone can have in ensuring the safety and security of their communities.
