Police in Eastern Visayas on heightened alert for May 12 elections
Firing Up for 2025: PNP Eastern Visayas Readies for Elections
It's election season again, and the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Eastern Visayas is gearing up for the May 12, 2025 National and Local Elections.
Brigadier General Jay Cumigad, regional police director, is leading the charge, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the elections' integrity. In a recent statement, he encouraged the public to stay vigilant, cooperate with authorities, and report any suspicious activities to uphold democratic principles.
The police force in the region is leaving no stone unturned, with all personnel mobilized for peacekeeping duties before, during, and after the elections. Leaves of absence have been suspended to ensure maximum deployment, under the full alert status.
The regional command has deployed strategic teams for enhanced security in critical areas. The Regional Special Operations Task Group is on the frontlines in the 1st District of Samar and the 3rd and 4th districts of Leyte, while Tactical Teams, or "Road Runners," roam the streets for mobile patrols.
Meanwhile, the Regional Standby Support Force has been positioned in Tacloban City and nearby towns in Leyte. These measures aim to ensure a safe, fair, and secure electoral process across Eastern Visayas.
For added security, the PNP-Eastern Visayas has also deployed a Contingent to the Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region to augment the security measures in areas of concern.
Beyond the visible deployments, the PNP is also prioritizing threats to Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) to ensure all citizens can exercise their right to vote without fear. The police are collaborating closely with other agencies like the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine Coast Guard, and other stakeholders to sustain the credibility of the electoral process.
So, citizens of Eastern Visayas, stay tuned, stay vigilant, and together we'll make this election a fair and peaceful one!
- In the wake of the 2025 elections in the Philippines, Tacloban City, located in Eastern Visayas, will experience increased security, given the Regional Standby Support Force's positioning in the city and nearby towns.
