Police in Dublin's northern region have uncovered the remains of a child while searching for the missing individual, Daniel Aruebose.
In a significant development, Gardaí have announced that human remains found in Donabate, north Dublin, are believed to be those of Daniel Aruebose, a boy who went missing over four years ago.
The remains were discovered during a new round of digging on Wednesday morning, very close to the initial location where excavation began almost three weeks ago. The plot of land just outside Donabate was sealed off by investigating gardaí last Monday week.
Garda Headquarters named Daniel Aruebose in the discovery of the remains. The child, who lived in The Gallery Apartments, Donabate, has not been seen alive for three to four years.
During the investigation, it was reported that Daniel died one night and his remains were buried in a field, now the site of the discovered skeletal remains. The investigation is trying to establish when Daniel was last seen alive.
Gardaí have been in contact with both Daniel's mother and father, who are no longer together. Daniel's mother is an Irish citizen living in Dublin, while his father is married and resides in South America. Tusla, the child and family agency, oversaw the case for all of those developments, but ceased its involvement with the child and his family in 2020.
A woman claiming to have specific information about Daniel Aruebose’s death and burial ground accompanied gardaí to the site. The name of this woman is not publicly available.
An Garda Siochana is currently working with the local coroner regarding the exhumation of the remains. Formal identification of the remains, including DNA analysis, will be carried out. The remains will undergo careful and sensitive exhumation from the current burial site.
Tusla has offered condolences for Daniel's death and will continue to cooperate with Gardaí in their investigation, also providing support and care to those affected. Since September 1st, gardaí have been searching and digging at the site, initially focusing on a specific location but expanding the area after initial excavation failed to find remains.
The investigation into Daniel Aruebose’s death was placed under investigation three weeks ago. Gardaí believe Daniel died about four years ago and commenced a criminal investigation last Friday week. A woman provided gardaí with information about the burial site and accompanied them twice to pinpoint the location.
This is a developing story, and more information will be released as it becomes available. Our thoughts are with Daniel's family and friends during this difficult time.
