Police in Dortmund intensify efforts against unlawful street racing incidents
Borussia Dortmund Police Crack Down on Illegal Street Racing
On September 17, 2025, the Borussia Dortmund Police's traffic division took a stand against illegal street racing with a targeted operation that lasted from 18:00 to 02:00. The operation, which focused on speeding violations, began at the intersection of Dorstfelder Allee and Rheinische Straße and extended to the area of Schwanenwall.
The operation saw a total of 42 offenses penalized, with 14 additional speeding offenses recorded during the operation. Laser measurements at the initial location revealed a total of 20 speeding offenses. The highest excess speed recorded was a modest 29 km/h, indicating a commitment to keeping speeds in check.
In a bid to combat the associated scene, the Borussia Dortmund police have been proactive since January 2021. They have implemented increased traffic controls, conducted targeted operations against illegal street racing, utilised undercover investigations, collaborated with local authorities and community initiatives, and raised public awareness.
During the operation, three further revocations of registration were noted, three seatbelt offenses were recorded, and one warning fine for 'other traffic violations' was issued. A Mercedes-Benz vehicle was impounded due to technical modifications, specifically, modifications to its air suspension and special wheels. The impounded vehicle showed signs of wear on the rim edges and a noise level measurement exceeded the permitted noise level.
The police checkpoint moved to the area of Schwanenwall around 21:15. The maximum speed limit on Schwanenwall is 30 km/h to minimise noise pollution from traffic. The operation's focus on speeding violations underscores the Borussia Dortmund police's commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.
