Police hunt suspect in Loch Ness child abuse case
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the United Kingdom, a white man, believed to be between 35 and 50 years old, bald, and approximately 5ft 10ins tall, is being sought by Police Scotland in connection with a sexual abuse case at a campsite near the world-famous Loch Ness.
The incident occurred on 31 July, 2025, at the Loch Ness Bay campsite in Drumnadrochit. The suspect is alleged to have approached an eight-year-old boy's tent between 00:20 and 01:00, with the boy's father witnessing the man leaving the tent immediately after the assault.
The area, a popular tourist destination, is known for its scenic beauty and is a common starting point for hikes and camping holidays in Scotland. However, the incident has not affected the popularity of Loch Ness as a tourist destination.
Detective Superintendent Calum Smith is appealing for witnesses. He is asking if anyone was in the area at that time, or if anyone saw anyone matching the suspect's description. Over 1,500 hours of surveillance footage is being reviewed by the police, and nearly 100 properties in the area have been searched.
Significant resources have been allocated to this investigation, with Police Scotland actively searching for the perpetrator. Smith expressed his concern about the incident, stating, "This is a horrific crime, and our thoughts are with the victim and his family."
The boy's family was in a nearby tent during the incident, and no new information about the suspect's identity has been provided. The incident has caused widespread shock and concern, with many in the community expressing their support for the police and the family affected.
