In the aftermath of the incident involving Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on 5 August 2025, Nigerian entertainer Debo Adedayo, better known as Mr Macaroni, has voiced his concerns over the handling of the case.

Macaroni has criticised the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, for her reaction to KWAM 1's apology regarding the airport incident. He argued that Dabiri-Erewa's stance suggests that wrongdoing can be excused with a simple apology without any real consequences.

The incident occurred when KWAM 1 allegedly obstructed the safe operation of an aircraft by attempting to board a ValueJet Airlines flight carrying a flask with liquid exceeding the permitted 100ml limit, violating aviation security rules. He is also accused of physically blocking a taxiing aircraft and assaulting airport officials.

The Nigeria Police Force has received a petition from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) regarding this alleged incident. The Force is committed to upholding safety and security within Nigeria's aviation sector and has directed a thorough investigation into the matter. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has also ordered a probe into the incident, reflecting the serious legal and security implications of KWAM 1’s actions.

The alleged conduct violates the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023, and Macaroni has demanded that everyone involved in the case be charged. Macaroni also challenged Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, to ensure legal action is taken in the KWAM 1 case. He insisted that those who obstructed the aircraft or exposed the woman's nakedness online should face prosecution.

Following an investigation by FAAN and NCAA, the Federal Government reviewed penalties after KWAM 1 showed public remorse. The NCAA reduced his initial indefinite flight ban to one month and withdrew criminal charges. Furthermore, the government announced plans to engage KWAM 1 as an ambassador to promote proper airport security protocols, aiming to turn the incident into a platform for improved compliance and public education about aviation security.

This case highlights the tension between celebrity status and adherence to aviation laws and underlines the critical importance of enforcing security measures to protect passenger safety.
