Police Department to organize charitable auto exhibition at Splash! in La Mirada
In a shocking turn of events, Los Angeles County is grappling with the loss of three Sheriff's Department Arson Unit detectives. William Osborn, Joshua Kelley-Eklund, and Victor Lemus were tragically killed on July 18, 2025, at the Biscailuz Regional Training Center in East Los Angeles. It is believed that they were killed when one of two grenades that were seized from a Santa Monica car storage bin a day earlier exploded.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide detectives are currently investigating the shooting. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is leading the investigation into the deadly blast.
Meanwhile, the community is coming together to honour the fallen heroes. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is hosting a charity car show on Sunday, September 21, 2025. The event is taking place at 13806 La Mirada Boulevard in the Splash parking lot in La Mirada. The car show is being organized to raise funds for the families of the three fallen deputies. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In other news, the community has been dealing with a recent spike in residential and vehicle thefts. To combat this, deputies conducted compliance checks for parolees/probationers in three specified areas. The checks were conducted in search of weapons, drugs, and items that violate parole/probation terms.
Unsubstantiated rumours have led to an increased presence of sheriff's deputies at La Mirada High School. However, the unspecified threat at the school was reported to the Norwalk Sheriff's Station within the past 72 hours.
Elsewhere in Norwalk, a man was shot and killed in a liquor store parking lot on Sunday night. The deceased man was identified as Christian Rodriguez, aged 49. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
In a lighter note, the Norwalk Station is hosting a car show this weekend. The car show is being hosted by deputies from the LASD's Norwalk Station and is set to take place on the same day as the charity car show.
The incident at La Mirada High School occurred on Friday, Dec. 21. It is unclear if the incident is related to the increased police presence at the school. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is committed to keeping the community safe and will continue to investigate these incidents thoroughly.
