Police Department Chief Frank Weber steps down following a long career spanning 45 years.
After an illustrious 45-year career in the city administration of Offenbach, Germany, Ordnungsamtsleiter (Head of Public Order Office) Frank Weber is set to retire. Known for his dedication and transformative leadership, Weber leaves behind a legacy of innovation and improved public safety.
Weber's tenure has been marked by a commitment to digital transformation, with many aspects of the Ordnungsamt now operating digitally. This includes the issuance of warnings, business registrations, and the online publication of statements. Under his leadership, the Ordnungsamt also introduced digital traffic safety weeks, violence prevention seminars, and Offenbach Prevention Day, all aimed at fostering a safer and more secure city.
Weber's initiatives extended beyond the digital realm. He was instrumental in the implementation of measures against illegal graffiti, the introduction of waste inspectors, the municipal fault reporter, and the AG Performance Fraud. His work also included the reinforcement and structural development of the city police, making it more transparent and effective.
Notable among Weber's achievements is the Peoples Theater project, initiated with the Förderverein Sicheres Offenbach. This project received the Hessian Prevention Prize in 2010. Weber also emphasised the importance of cooperation with the state police for maximum security for citizens. In 2025, under his leadership, the city police introduced a bicycle patrol and deployed body cameras for self-protection.
Joint patrols with the state police, practiced for two years, have been well received by the population. However, Weber, who headed the city's third-largest office with 140 employees, does not wish to give advice to his successor.
Reflecting on his retirement, Weber expresses nostalgia but also looks forward to spending more time with family, travelling, and pursuing hobbies. He particularly misses working with his colleagues and will miss his role in shaping his home city for decades.
Before his work in the Ordnungsamt, Weber was active in the Street Traffic Office for almost two decades, responsible for the introduction of 30 km/h zones, equipping school routes, resident parking, and traffic-dependent traffic light control. Weber's career has been significantly shaped by technological change, transitioning from analog methods before the digital age to leading the Ordnungsamt into the digital era.
