Police conduct search at residence of Netanyahu associate as part of probe into alleged corruption

Israeli police have launched a corruption and drug probe that has led to the raids on the home and office of Social Equality Minister May Golan. The raids, which took place on Monday, are part of an ongoing investigation involving allegations of misuse of donated funds, fraudulent employment, and the mistreatment of staff members in Golan's office.

The nonprofit organization founded by Minister Golan, The Hebrew City, is accused of misusing donated funds. According to reports, the misused funds were never spent on their intended purposes. Golan's close associates are alleged to have arranged government jobs for their relatives through this nonprofit organization. However, the specific nonprofit organization in question has not been identified in the search results.

In a related development, Prime Minister Netanyahu is also facing ongoing corruption trials dating back to early 2025. The trials against Netanyahu include accusations of receiving lavish gifts from wealthy businessmen and negotiating with Yedioth Ahronoth publisher Arnon Mozes for favorable coverage.

The corruption probe has also led to the arrest of several suspects, including an attorney close to Golan, who was arrested and police sought to extend his detention after questioning. Additionally, a close aide to far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir was also arrested. This aide heads an unnamed NGO.

During the raids, officers discovered a drug laboratory in the home of one of Golan's associates. Golan dismissed the allegations against her, claiming the recordings were created by AI. Haaretz daily reported that police summoned Golan for questioning in connection with the investigation.

The investigation comes at a time when Golan is a member of Netanyahu's Likud Party. Golan agreed to appear for interrogation later on Monday. The investigation is a setback for the government, which has been facing criticism over its handling of various issues, including the economy and the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge. The public will be closely watching the developments in this case, which has the potential to shake up the political landscape in Israel.
