Police checks at the Kö come to an end on Car Friday in Dusseldorf.

In an unprecedented show of enforcement, the Düsseldorf Police took action against a variety of traffic violations and suspected criminal activities during the annual Car Friday event on Good Friday 2023.

The event, which saw more than 60 vehicles and drivers being seized for thorough checks, resulted in a total of 27 administrative offenses and 36 warning fines. Among the offenses, two cases of insulting police officers were reported, and suspicion of document forgery was found in one case.

One of the most significant seizures involved a 12-cylinder sports car in matt bronze, the LED-equipped rear lights of which had no approval marks and were illegally painted. The car's owner, a man from Heinsberg, was taken into custody by the Düsseldorf Police on 4th August.

Three blood samples were taken due to suspected alcohol or drug impairment, and one driver's license was confiscated. A 22-year-old Turkish man without a valid driver's license fled but was apprehended after 500 meters.

A 31-year-old Serbian man wanted with two arrest warrants was discovered during the inspection. He was handed over to the authorities.

In a separate incident, a 21-year-old Albanian presented an obviously fake Greek driver's license and was charged with suspected document forgery and driving without a license.

The "Tuning Task Force" checked everything thoroughly, including suspensions, wheels, wraps, and registrations. One case involved a small car rolling on pneumatic tires, which was only allowed to be mounted on a Mercedes.

Despite the whining protests of one car owner, the officer suggested a solution to make the rear lights clear again, but warned that the process might break the lights. The owner and his family, including his wife and daughter, were left to continue their journey home on foot.

While the increase in illegal street races in Düsseldorf was not directly addressed during this operation, it is clear that the Düsseldorf Police are committed to maintaining law and order on the city's roads. For more detailed information about the increase of illegal street races in Düsseldorf and the outcomes of any police operations, official statements from Düsseldorf police or local news reports would be the most reliable sources to consult.

The man from Heinsburg's luxury sports car, with uncanny rear lights, was seized due to car-maintenance violations, as it lacked approval marks and was illegally painted, thus disrupting his lifestyle. Participants at the event were also cautioned about their driving habits, as a 21-year-old Albanian was charged for suspected document forgery and driving without a license, hinting at the need for enhanced sports car maintenance and legal lifestyle choices on the city's roads.
