Boat Accident in Bohol Disputed
A controversial post on social media claims that two fishermen were run over by police and Bantay Dagat personnel around Carlos P. Garcia City on May 2, 2025, allegedly resulting in their deaths. The victims were identified as Rene Awas Reyes and B-Jay Manayon, alias Budon, who were said to have been navigating an illegal fishing boat.
Residents near the scene expressed their concern, alleging that the victims were attacked by a group from Pitogo, who were acting with the police and Bantay Dagat.

News about the incident spread like wildfire, triggering investigations from the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) led by Police Colonel Arnel Banzon along with colleagues from the Bien Unido Police Station, Ubay PNP, and Talibon. Upon examining the police station, no evidence was found to suggest the involvement of the local police in the incident.

Police Lieutenant Conrado Butil confirmed that there were no Coastal Law Enforcement Operations conducted by the force from May 1-2, 2025.
The BPPO officers expressed doubt in the allegations, as messages surfaced suggesting the boat color of the victims was apple green, despite the alleged incident happening in a different area where the local police were not involved.

Investigators from various local divisions in Bien Unido are probing the incident, especially considering two witnesses who claim to have seen a red motorboat collide with the victims.
The boat belonging to the victims, described as a single-engine vessel, is yet to be identified.
