Two-year-old polar bear twin sensations, Kaja and Skadi, are flourishing at Rostock Zoo. These adorable cubs celebrated their birthday on the 14th of November, 2021, and since then, their growth has been nothing short of remarkable. With Skadi tipping the scales at 198 kilograms and Kaja weighting an impressive 237 kilograms, they've got quite a bite!
Despite their size, these bears aren't fully grown yet. They've got about a year left, according to Daniela Lahn, the curator of mammals at the zoo. And boy, do they enjoy their food! Like their fellow zoo denizens, Kaja and Skadi are smitten with chicken, watermelon, and salmon oil. Apparently, these little critters' tastes are more refined than you might think!
Even though they're quite independent now, they still need their mother's, Sizzel, comfort in unfamiliar situations. This mother-cub bond is a testament to the resilient nature of these Arctic wonders.
Rostock Zoo has a rich history with polar bears, having raised 37 cubs thereby far, including one hand-reared one. Currently, the zoo is home to five female bears: Lili, Noria, Sizzel, Skadi, and Kaja. According to the zoo, these two delightful duos are already showing off their independent skills. They can now stand on the bars to investigate their bellies, open wide to display their pearly white teeth, and even extend their paw to touch the bars.
