Poland's Opposition Accuses Germany and bordering states of covert talks; Government labels allegations as PiS propaganda.

Zooming in on the heated political discourse between Poland and Germany, Jarosław Kaczyński, leader of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, has fired off accusations that secret negotiations are going down between the Polish government and Germany regarding the relocation of migrants. Labeling this situation as another "scandal," Kaczyński alleged that these under-the-table dealings are keeping Polish society in the dark and are evidence of Poland losing its sovereignty to Berlin.

During a press conference in Słubice, Kaczyński displayed his outrage over German media reports suggesting that migrants were being returned to Poland, with little clarity around the specifics. Kaczyński emphasized that, despite this apparent lack of transparency, the PiS had learned about these developments from foreign resources rather than the Polish authorities.

"We're seemingly dealing with some kind of secret negotiations between Germany and certain neighboring countries," declared Kaczyński, adding that if these negotiations were indeed occurring out of the public eye, it would mark another scandal in a seemingly never-ending string of them.

The former deputy prime minister didn't hold back, also criticizing the governance under Donald Tusk, whom he accused of allowing Germany to dictate terms to Poland. Kaczyński expressed concern that German police cars were increasingly visible deep within the territory, interpreting this as a sign of indisputable loss of Polish sovereignty under the current administration.

Interior Minister Tomasz Siemoniak, in response to Kaczyński's claims, swiftly called them out as baseless propaganda from the PiS party. Speaking at an event in Wałbrzych, Siemoniak emphasized that all migrant returns are conducted in accordance with the law and that the number of migrants returned from Germany to Poland has actually decreased since PiS was no longer in power.

"PiS is employing this issue for propaganda purposes, attempting to divert attention from its own inadequacies, particularly concerning visa policies," Siemoniak remarked.

He further dismissed the temporary border controls between Germany and Poland as primarily inconveniencing local residents and not effectively addressing immigration issues. Siemoniak also hinted that Poland will be monitoring the situation closely, awaiting actions from the new German government before making a move.

The debate over migrant returns comes amidst broader tensions between Poland and Germany on migration policy. Critics point to the EU's Dublin Regulation, under which asylum seekers are expected to apply for protection in the first EU country they enter, enabling Germany to legally return migrants to Poland if there's proof they initially crossed into the Schengen Area through Poland. The issue of migration has consistently been a prominent talking point in Polish political discourse, with PiS leveraging its rhetoric to resist EU migration policies and to portray Germany as overly influential in Polish affairs[1][2][3].

As Poland's opposition parties prepare for upcoming presidential elections, the migrant issue is poised to remain a contentious point between PiS and the ruling Civic Coalition.
