Poland prepares to submit a bid for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.
Ready to talk some Olympics, mate? Poland's thrown its hat in the ring to host the Summer Games in 2036! President Andrzej Duda said, "We're gonna do this!" They've even started the steps to prove it.
After a good ole chinwag with the Polish Olympic Committee, the Sports Minister, and the government, Duda announced, "We're gonna aim high, and that's the Summer Olympic Games in 2036!"
He reminisced about the UEFA EURO Championship 2012, Poland and Ukraine's joint effort. "It was bloody groundbreaking for us, and since then, we've been keen to organize more sports events, not just football, but a range of sports disciplines." This year's European Games were a success, too, he added.
Duda mentioned that with the developments happening in their country, "Why not go big? Let's shoot for the world's largest sports event, the Summer Olympic Games!"
According to Duda, Poland's infrastructure will be top-notch by that time with the Solidarity Transport Hub (Centralny Port Komunikacyjny – CPK) ready, and over 8,000 km of expressways and highways across the country.
Sports and Tourism Minister Kamil Bortniczuk thinks they've got a chance. "We've proved ourselves reliable partners in the past, and the European Games were smooth sailing. The Olympic Games might be a bit bigger, but we're up for the challenge. With over 11-12k athletes participating, the European Games were already on a comparable scale," he said.
Bortniczuk also claimed that the current economic status of Poland is better than what Spain and Greece had when they bid for the 1992 Barcelona and 2004 Athens Olympics, respectively.
If Poland gets the nod, Warsaw would be the lucky city. Other cities already eyeing the 2036 Summer Games include Mexico, Indonesia, and Turkey. India, Egypt, and China also harbor unofficial ambitions.
The next few games up to 2032 have already been announced as Paris in 2024, Los Angeles in 2028, and Brisbane in 2032. Keep your fingers crossed for the Poles, eh? 😉
