Hey there, people! Let's dive into the world of poker and learn from one of the best - Joao Vieira, a.k.a. "Naza114." Vieira's got three WSOP bracelets and tops the Portuguese all-time money list, but he's not one to rest on his laurels.

He's currently grindin' at the PokerStars European Poker Tour Monte Carlo festival and has quite the lineup over the coming months. You can find him in Montenegro and Las Vegas too.

Our pals over at PokerNews caught up with the Winamax Poker Ambassador to chat about pre-tournament prep, striking the right balance between online and live poker, and, of course, his hunt for more live tournament glory.

Prepping for the Big Events

Quarter through 2025, Vieira’s pace slows down a bit. After some time off in January to recharge post-holidays, he gradually ramps up his focus, aiming to peak during major events like the EPT Monte Carlo, Triton Poker Series events, and the World Series of Poker (WSOP). Vieira plans to use spring as a stepping stone for the tough mental and physical challenges he expects in the coming months.

"I come from a sporting standpoint, with basketball, where you plan your peaks over the course of the season," he says. "In March, I was at Triton, so in April, I tried not to fly. I focused on playing online, sharpening the tools a bit. Just to get ready for 80 days of live tournaments that I'm going to play."

By carefully managing his energy levels, Vieira builds up to the end of the WSOP in mid-July without burning out amidst the long, grueling poker circuit.

Managing the Grind

Rest and breaks play a crucial role in the marathon of live poker tournaments. "It's such a long journey, you just have to take it one day at a time," Vieira tells us. Skipping a few minor events he's not feeling, like mystery bounties or turbos, enables him to conserve energy for the most critical moments.

"You want to be fresh whenever you have a chance," he says, emphasizing the importance of staying sharp during those extended tournament stretches. "If you have a deep run, and you have a Day 2 or a Day 3, you want to be fully fresh."

Tackling the Live Poker Hunt

Vieira has cleaned up online, with 19 titles under his belt across SCOOP and WCOOP events. However, he's decided to focus more on live tournaments this year.

"I feel I've had my fair bit of success there," he admits. "I've done well this April with a couple of big final tables. So during SCOOP I'll play a couple of Sundays, but 'Naza114' is going to take a little break."

Vieira's ready to start building his live tournament accomplishments, starting here in Monte Carlo. "My resume online has been fairly good. Now I'm just going to try and replicate that in live events. I feel things are starting to pick up the pace, and hopefully, in a couple of years, you'll ask me where I'm going to keep all the live tournament trophies I've won!"
