Pokémon fans revive decade-old theory about swapped Raupy and Bluzuk evolutions
A long-standing Pokémon theory has resurfaced after Twitch streamer Niekbeats reignited discussions about swapped evolution sprites. The debate centres on Raupy (Caterpie) and Bluzuk (Weedle), with fans arguing their evolutionary lines may have been mixed up. The idea first gained traction in online forums over a decade ago but remains unconfirmed by official sources.
Niekbeats recently shared a theory suggesting Raupy's evolution into Smettbo (Venomoth) would make more logical sense than its current path to Omot (Beedrill). According to the streamer, Raupy should first become a cocoon before transforming into a moth-like creature. Meanwhile, Bluzuk's design—particularly its eyes and antennae—appears better suited to Smettbo's appearance than Omot's.
The theory isn't new. As early as 2011, forums like PokéCommunity and Bulbagarden hosted debates about potential sprite swaps. Fans presented hex-editing evidence and sprite comparisons to support the claim. Despite the discussions, no official confirmation has ever been provided.
Niekbeats also recently caught a shiny Bisaflor (Venusaur) after 184 attempts, adding to their visibility in the Pokémon community. However, the focus remains on the long-running debate over whether Raupy and Bluzuk's evolutionary lines were unintentionally swapped.
The theory continues to spark interest among fans, though it remains speculative. Detailed comparisons and historical forum discussions keep the idea alive, even without official backing. For now, Raupy and Bluzuk's evolution paths stay unchanged in the games.
