Pogacar's time trial victory bested by Evenpool
In the ongoing 112th Tour de France, the race has taken an exciting turn following the first individual time trial. Tadej Pogačar, the Slovenian cyclist, is now the current holder of the coveted Yellow Jersey, having secured enough time to move into the lead in the general classification.
The time trial, held over a flat 33 kilometers in Caen, France, saw Remco Evenepoel claim a resounding victory, finishing 16 seconds ahead of defending champion Pogačar. Unfortunately, Dutch cyclist Mathieu van der Poel and Belgian rider Jasper Philipsen could not participate in the time trial, with Philipsen crashing during the race and van der Poel currently behind in the general classification.
Pogačar's ascent to the top spot was further boosted by the performance of his fellow riders. German cyclist Florian Lipowitz finished an impressive sixth, outperforming his team captain Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard, who lost 1:21 minutes to Evenepoel in the time trial and did not finish in the top ten.
As a result, Evenepoel now leads the general classification, with Pogačar close behind. The second time trial, a challenging event featuring a steep climb to the airport in Peyragudes, is scheduled for July 18. The breakaway riders are expected to have a chance to win the fourth stage, which will take place on Thursday.
With the race heating up, fans are eagerly awaiting the next stages of the Tour de France to see how the battle for the Yellow Jersey unfolds.
