Pogacar Crashes Out of Strade Bianche 2023 While Leading
Tadej Pogacar, the reigning Tour de France champion, crashed out of the Strade Bianche 2023 with 50km to go while leading the race. The incident occurred as he was part of a trio with Tom Pidcock and Connor Swift. Pogacar, riding for UAE Team Emirates XRG, had previously won the event twice and was aiming for a third consecutive victory.
Pogacar's crash happened when his back wheel gave way, causing him to slide across the road and into a ditch. The incident left him with grazes down his left side and rips across his white skinsuit. Reflecting on the crash, Pogacar attributed it to going too fast and misjudging the road. Despite the setback, he had earlier shown impressive form, winning the race in 2021 and 2022.
Earlier in the race, Pogacar had a bike swap after the crash and rejoined the front of the race. He then went into the final 45km alongside Tom Pidcock, demonstrating his resilience and determination. However, his misfortune on the day prevented him from adding to his previous wins.
Pogacar's crash at Strade Bianche 2023 was a disappointing turn of events for the UAE Team Emirates XRG rider. Despite his earlier dominance in the race, the incident with 50km to go ended his hopes of a third consecutive victory. His team and fans will now look ahead to his next race, hoping for a return to form and success.
