PNP boosts security in transportation hubs as Christmas exodus begins
Over 100,000 police officers will patrol the Philippines during the Christmas and New Year holidays. The move follows directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla to boost security across the country. Authorities aim to ensure safety as millions travel for the festive season.
Acting police chief Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. has ordered tighter security at ports, bus terminals, and other transport hubs. Local units must now adjust shifts to keep more officers visible in crowded areas. The deployment covers not just transport links but also business districts and residential zones.
Police will work around the clock until the holidays end. Their presence will extend to major roads and public spaces where large crowds gather. The operation marks a significant increase from last year, when 60,000 officers were assigned. Officials have urged travellers to follow rules and cooperate with authorities. The heightened measures come as Filipinos prepare for one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
The expanded police operation will run non-stop until after New Year’s Day. With more officers on duty than in 2022, authorities expect better crowd control and faster emergency responses. Travellers and residents have been asked to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
