Plummeting from New Zealand: The Descent of Kbyat
Rising Star Kybat Makes Waves in Drum and Bass Scene
Kybat, a 17-year-old drum and bass (DNB) producer from New Zealand, is making a name for himself in the world of bass music. Despite his recent success on TikTok, particularly with the track 'How Do You Do', Kybat aspires to be more than just the "TikTok DNB Kid".
Kybat's musical journey began in his childhood, where he took drum lessons and taught himself piano. At the tender age of 11, he discovered an online Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) called Audiotool and started creating music. The coastal town on the East coast of England, where he originated, may have played a role in his early exposure to music, but Kybat moved to New Zealand at a young age.
The local youth and teenagers in his new home have embraced drum and bass, a genre that Kybat found through the iconic track 'Tour' by Macky Gee. This genre has been instrumental in shaping Kybat's music, which is now available on the LoveThatBass record label, a platform that covers the full spectrum of the jungle/dnb genre.
Kybat's track "Free Falling" is a special one, marking a shift in his approach to music-making. It was one of the first productions where he tried to make a song rather than a beat. This track is also notable as it has been included in the DeVice Exposed 002 Compilation, a dream come true for Kybat.
Despite the challenges of being too young to attend events where his music is played, Kybat remains motivated. He finds inspiration in the videos he receives from people listening to his music and looks forward to collaborating with vocalists and producers in the future.
In his studio, Kybat uses FL Studio on a MacBook, a MIDI keyboard, and headphones. He often employs the stock FL Studio plugin "Maximus" in his production. Kybat's musical influences extend beyond the DNB scene, with the New Zealand-based duo Lee Mvtthews playing a significant role in his career.
As Kybat's name becomes more recognized, he hopes to overcome the issues of people mispronouncing or misspelling his name, which is simply Kbyat, chosen to stand out from other DJ/producer names. With his unique sound and dedication to his craft, it's clear that Kybat is a talent to watch in the world of drum and bass.
