Pleads Father Romanelli from the altar of Gaza: Seeking Tranquility and Harmony

In the heart of the Zeitoun neighborhood, east of Gaza City, Father Romanelli serves as the parish priest of the Holy Family. The parish, which has not been heavily affected by bombardments, currently provides shelter to 450 refugees.

Among the refugees are families with young children, the elderly, sick individuals, and the bedridden. Even the children of Mother Teresa, who were already living at the parish before the war, have joined the ranks of the displaced.

The situation in the neighborhood worsens every day, and no one knows how far the conflict will go or what the future holds. Yet, despite the noise of weapons nearby, Father Romanelli and his congregation continue to pray, and he has published images on social media showing the faithful doing the same.

Father Romanelli invokes freedom for Palestinians, Israelis, hostages, and all those who are deprived of it. He repeats his plea for the war to stop, so that the people living in the Gaza Strip can have what they need to live, not just survive, but to rebuild their lives.

The Israeli offensive on Gaza has caused great damage, particularly in western and northwest areas of Gaza City and parts of the south. The bombardments are affecting the south of Gaza, with no reported safe areas.

Father Romanelli and his congregation continue to provide assistance to those in need. He has blessed a marriage between two young Christians, baptized a child named Marco, the youngest of the refugees, and given the scapular of the Holy Virgin to 65 people as a sign of protection and blessing.

He has traced the military operation and has shared testimonies and information about it. Despite the hardships they face, Father Romanelli and his parish continue to pray for peace and justice for all. Some neighbors have left the area, but most residents of the Zeitoun neighborhood have stayed.

As the only Catholic priest in Gaza City, Father Romanelli has described the challenges faced by the community during the ongoing military operations. He calls for an end to the ongoing war in Gaza, hoping for a day when the people of Gaza can live in peace and rebuild their lives.
