Players' Perilous Encounters with Angry Sandworms in Dune: Awakening Videos

In Dune: Awakening, the terrifying sandworms are the game's deadliest obstacles, capable of stripping you of your hard-earned loot in a single gulp. Get caught in their clutches, and kiss your gear, weapons, vehicles, and resources goodbye.

Trudging through the desert's gaps means constantly keeping an eye out for Shai-Hulud, as they're never far off, ready to pounce at the slightest provocation. Your movements may very well summon one, leading to nail-biting moments as you outrun the colossal, gaping maw.

Spend too long admiring the scenery, and the sandworm charges, its monstrous jaw the size of a train tunnel, obliterating everything in its path. My latest pastime consists of frequenting the Dune subreddit daily, just to witness some heart-racing, nerve-wracking close calls with these menacing creatures.

Witnessing a player squeeze by mere inches as the sandworm bears down is beyond exhilarating. Here's a few of my favorite sandworm encounters:

From HunwutP:

A close call. I adore this video. You can tell things have gone pear-shaped when the camera starts pulling back, revealing the sheer size of the worm that's devouring our hapless Hero.

The bike's offroad acrobatics as the worm narrowly misses its mark are mesmerizing.

From Lunchable-Toast:

Much like a bear, shark, or Jason Vorhees, you don't need to be quick to outrun a sandworm. You merely need to be quicker than another player.

From Sekhen:

If one sandworm is bad news, two is definitely a problem. If you see a sandworm going after another player, it doesn't mean you're in the clear. Anything that gets in Shai-Hulud's way gets swallowed, including the poor sod in the tape above. Shai-Hulud almost scored a double down!

From XirtCS:

Lingering a bit too long while tinkering with a crashed ship in the dunes can be dangerous. Shai-Hulud will soon be along to sweep you up—wreck and all. Fortunately, the idiotic worm chose an awkward spot to start its charge and smacked its head against the rocks. Perhaps next time!

From Sekhen (again!):

Dealing with Sardaukar assassins can be troublesome enough, but if a sandworm breaches during the fray, it's an episode you won't want to repeat. This player narrowly avoids being swallowed as the worm zips in the background, only to return later to gobble up the deceased combatants.

Threw together my own escapade above, but surviving through cunning, not speed. Caught in the quicksand, my bike sank while I stupidly struggled to start the engine. Just as the worm approached, my bike exploded, saving me from certain doom.

Though it might not sound like a triumphant escape, I only lost my bike and a few resources from my backpack. If the worm had gotten me, I'd have lost everything. Thanks, explosions!

  1. Betting on close calls with the sandworms in Dune: Awakening can prove to be nerve-wracking, as a player's victory is often achieved by mere inches, much like the heart-racing encounters described by Sekhen.
  2. In the world of Dune: Awakening, it's not only about speed; one must also be wary of the elaborate strategies employed by other players during sandworm encounters, as demonstrated by Lunchable-Toast.
  3. As documented by Sekhen, the dunes of Dune: Awakening can be unforgiving, with sandworms often running amok during fights, making it crucial to choose classes wisely to ensure survival against these monstrous obstacles.
