Players from the Saarlouis youth national team en route to the World Cup
In the historic city of Saarlouis, a sense of excitement is brewing as two young athletes, Thore Penke and Moritz Holzhey, prepare to embark on an international journey to the World Championship in Taiwan. Born in 2013, these talented baseball players have been selected for the German U12 national team.
The city, in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, Building and Sport, and the Saarland Turnerbund, is working diligently to further strengthen the baseball location in Saarlouis. Plans to create a Saarland performance center in the Fliesen are underway, aiming to improve infrastructure and expand training capacities for aspiring athletes like Thore and Moritz.
The city's leadership recently hosted a special reception for the young athletes and their families, where they were officially received by Mayor Marc Speicher, Mayor Carsten Quirin, and Deputy Mayor Gerald Purucker in the Gobelinsaal of Saarlouis Town Hall. Representatives from sports and politics, including Thomas Klein and Tim Osbild from the Sports Office, Bastian Waschbusch (CDU fraction), Andreas Julien (SPD fraction), Karsten Kreis from the Saarland Turnerbund, Max Raaber as deputy chairman of the "City Association for Sport", and Yannik Petry from the Saarlouis Hornets, were also present.
During the reception, the young athletes were presented with the comic book "Fluxus", a story and legend telling about the city of Saarlouis, and the exclusive Saarlouis Sports pennant as a farewell gift. The city wishes them a good journey, many sporting experiences, and unforgettable friendships.
The German team recently achieved a respectable fourth place in the European Championship in Czech Hluboka, with the captain of the German baseball national team, Eric Brenk, having already left his mark in the Golden Book during an international match Germany against France last year. Mayor Quirin is convinced that in a few years, Moritz Holzhey and Thore Penke will be part of the German men's national team.
While specific details about their participation in the World Championship, their achievements, or precise plans for baseball development in Saarlouis are limited, it is clear that the city is committed to nurturing young talent and fostering a vibrant sports scene. For more comprehensive and updated information, checking local sports clubs’ websites, Saarlouis city sports department publications, or contacting the Saarlouis Hornets baseball club directly would be necessary.
