Danish-UK Electronic Duo Oui Plastique Releases Remastered EP "UnMute"

In the realm of electronic music, Danish-UK duo Oui Plastique has made a significant mark with their synth-heavy sound. The group recently reissued a remastered 3-track EP titled "UnMute," which includes a cover of a song by Martin Gore, the songwriter and guitarist of Depeche Mode.

The EP, released via Town And Towers Records in 2025, offers a contemporary take on Gore's music. While Oui Plastique and Gore have not had a direct collaborative history, the cover version on "UnMute" serves as a notable connection between the two artists.

Oui Plastique, a blend of Danish and UK influences, is the collaboration between Martin Nyrup from Denmark and James Thomas from the UK. They began their partnership in 2017. The duo's debut full-length album, "Fraternity of Strangers," was released in 2021 via ScentAir Records.

One of the tracks on "UnMute," "It Doesn't Matter Two," was written by Martin Gore and features Bridget Gray from The Rude Awakening. Another track, "Compulsion," was originally popularized by Martin Gore on his solo EP Counterfeit. The EP's closing track, "The Bottom Line," was written by Gore and originally released by Depeche Mode.

Martin Gore, born on July 23, 1961, in Dagenham, Essex, England, is a renowned figure in the music industry. Beyond his work with Depeche Mode, Gore has pursued solo projects, releasing albums like "Counterfeit" (1989) and "MG" (2015). He has also collaborated with Vince Clarke in the duo VCMG and performs as a DJ.

Gore's journey in music began in Basildon, where he initially played guitar and keyboards in Depeche Mode. After Vince Clarke's departure in 1981, Gore took on a more prominent songwriting role in the band. Despite personal challenges, including struggles with alcoholism, Gore continues to produce music.

Depeche Mode, with Gore's contributions, has sold over 100 million records globally. The remastered version of "UnMute" is available from today on all major digital platforms. While specific future projects, tours, or releases from Oui Plastique have not been announced, the reissue of "UnMute" suggests ongoing activity and promotion from the duo.

The darkwave sounds of electronic duo Oui Plastique, comprised of Martin Nyrup and James Thomas, resonate within the contemporary entertainment sphere, paying homage to celebrated figures like Martin Gore with their remastered EP, "UnMute." This EP, featuring covers and reinterpretations of tracks penned by Gore, bridges the gap between the two artists, demonstrating their shared love for music.
