Attention all workers and union supporters! The German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) is gearing up for a storm, organizing a whopping 30 demonstrations and events across Hesse on Thursday, May 1st. If you're in the region, join us to stand up for a fair and just labor market!

The main event, aptly named "Stand up with us," happens in Hanau at 10:00 AM.Come rain or shine (the German Weather Service is predicting sunshine and temperatures up to 29°C), Michael Rudolph, DGB's regional chairman, and Kaweh Mansoori, Hesse's Minister of Economics (SPD), will be taking the stage.

Last year, under similarly splendid weather conditions, the DGB reported a total of 17,000 demonstrators in Hesse. Will you be part of the vanguard this time around?

Historical labor struggles

Remembering the past while pushing for the future, Rudolph continues his call for secure jobs with competitive pay. Nationwide, DGB demands an action plan to strengthen collective bargaining, a federal collective bargaining loyalty law, and a minimum wage that elevates workers above the poverty line.

Saluting the historical struggles of the labor movement, Hesse's SPD faction leader, Tobias Eckert, emphasizes, "This day is globally recognized as a symbol that good working conditions, justice, and solidarity must be fought for, maintained, and lived."

General union demands focus on fair wages, shorter work weeks, and enhanced worker protections in the face of current challenges to the union movement in Germany. If you'd like to stay updated on the latest DGB demands and events, be sure to check their official announcements or local news sources. Let's make history together and strive for a more equitable labor market for all!
