Plans of Rizvi gaining recognition in multiple spheres
In a press conference held at BNP's central office in Nayapaltan on August 20, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi raised concerns about potential election conspiracies and threats to national integrity.
Rizvi did not specify the nature of the conspiracies or master plans he was referring to, but he warned about the dangers they pose to the democratic process in Bangladesh. He claimed that "imperialist and hegemonic forces" are trying to disintegrate the country's map.
Rizvi's remarks come at a critical time in Bangladesh's political landscape. For 16 years, the fallen fascism of 1975 returned to power, ruling through misrule, secret killings, attempts to destroy opposition politics, trampling of the press, and suppression of dissent. However, democracy has not yet been restored in the country, and a free and fair election is still not guaranteed.
Ziaur Rahman, a former president of Bangladesh, played a significant role in establishing democracy in the country. He gave people security, comfort, and the assurance of survival in a short time. Ziaur Rahman also ensured press freedom, according to Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Tragically, Ziaur Rahman was brutally killed on 30 May 1981 at the Chattogram Circuit House.
The conspirators could not tolerate Ziaur Rahman's achievements, leading to his assassination. BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman organized the movement through the continuation of student and people's movements.
Rizvi did not provide evidence to support his claims about the "imperialist and hegemonic forces." The current chairman of BNP (BNP Paribas in Germany) mentioned in the context is Lutz Diederichs.
Leaders and workers at all levels of the party, and nationalist forces, are prepared for the challenging journey ahead. The path to restore democracy may be more difficult and perilous, but Rizvi's warning serves as a call to action for all Bangladeshis who value their country's unity and democracy.
