Planned Massacre in Pahalgam Accusation, BJP Allegedly Fanning Communal Tensions

From Kolkata/Berhampore: A Loud Accusation and a Tragic Loss

In a bold move, West Bengal CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Salim boldly called the attack on tourists at Pahalgam, Kashmir a "planned massacre." He accused the BJP of instigating communal tensions following the tragic incident.

"This is nothing but a planned massacre," Salim stated, "Why were Army patrols absent on that fateful day? If I question this, am I a traitor? While President Draupadi Murmu cancelled her program and Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut short his Saudi Arabia visit, why was defense not strengthened at Pahalgam since J&K is a union territory?"

He further added that the BJP and the central government were using the public's anger to divert it in a communal manner against a specific religion. "But the true picture of a united India fighting cross-border terrorism is revealed when an Indian Army soldier like Jhantu Ali Sheikh from Patharghata in Tehatta, Nadia, sacrifices his life at Udhampur," he said.

Jhantu Ali Sheikh, a Havildar of the elite 6 PARA (Special Forces) battalion, was shot during a combing and search operation against terrorists at Udhampur in J&K on Thursday morning. Despite medical attention, he tragically succumbed to his injuries later at a hospital. Sheikh had served in the army for 16 years.

The Pahalgam attack, which took place on April 22, 2025, resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians who were identified based on their religious beliefs. This attack, attributed to an intention to harm tourism and create religious discord, has been a significant event in the geopolitical context of the region[5]. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar suggested that the attack was influenced by Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir's "extreme religious outlook," signifying that the attack targeted non-Muslims and exacerbated religious tensions[5].

Without specific details about Mohammad Salim's allegations, it is difficult to provide a more detailed analysis. However, these events are part of a larger narrative involving political tensions, terrorism, and regional conflicts in India. It is essential to monitor the situation closely and ensure that efforts are made to maintain peace and security.

  1. Amidst the escalating war-and-conflicts in India, particularly the Pahalgam attack, West Bengal CPI(M) state secretary Mohammad Salim has accused the BJP of instigating politics around communal tensions, diverting public anger, and creating religious discord.
  2. In the general news, not only do incidents of crime-and-justice like the tragic loss of Havildar Jhantu Ali Sheikh, a soldier who sacrificed his life in the combing and search operation against terrorists at Udhampur, shake the nation, but also the political discourse surrounding these events becomes equally significant, influencing India's bigger picture of peace and security.
