In the heart of Neuss, changes are afoot as the city administration embarks on a comprehensive urban renewal project. One of the most significant developments is the relocation of the drug counseling center due to the construction of a new residential quarter on Augustinusstraße.

The county administrator and Rhein-Kreis Neuss are responsible for crime prevention measures, including a drug consumption room. However, the long-term measures for the area around the town hall remain undisclosed, with the search results focusing on broader political topics.

Typically, urban renewal projects in central areas like Neuss's town hall environs involve improving public safety, increasing police presence, urban renewal, enhanced lighting, social programs, and rehabilitation offers for drug users.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Social Democratic Party (SPD), Neuss's leading political parties, often propose distinct measures. CDU usually emphasizes stricter law enforcement, increased police patrols, tougher penalties for drug-related crimes, and enhanced security infrastructure. On the other hand, SPD frequently highlights combining enforcement with social support programs, such as expanded addiction counseling, outreach services, and preventive measures targeting vulnerable populations to reduce drug dependency and improve safety sustainably.

The city administration also plans to significantly expand prevention and counseling offers, aiming to address drug-related issues more effectively. GWG, a company that intends to build many affordable apartments, has already purchased the property where the drug counseling center is currently located.

Other improvements include better lighting in the area around the city hall, pruning the trees on the green strip between the parking lot and the hotel to a height of about 2.5 meters, and redesigning the area between the current drug counseling center and the kiosk due to the new residential quarter.

The no longer used toilet facility and the old waiting hall at the city hall will be removed, and the area will be modernized with better visibility. An opaque fence was installed in the green area behind the drug counseling center to allow the police to enforce order more effectively on the city hall parking lot. This measure has shown initial successes, as the current situation on the city hall parking lot has significantly improved.

The CDU parliamentary group leader, Sven Schümann, emphasizes the need for more action against drug dealing in the city hall surroundings. SPD faction leader Sascha Karbowiak explained the goal is to improve the situation for residents. Dorint Hotel and Neuss Marketing, the operator of the city hall, had criticized the current conditions on the parking lot and complained about losses in sales.

The city hall bus stops are to be redesigned by 2026, further enhancing the area's accessibility and appeal. The fight against crime and health care falls under the responsibility of Rhein-Kreis Neuss, with public drug consumption having no place in the city, according to Rolf Retzlaff, implying his stance on the matter.

As the urban renewal project progresses, residents and visitors can look forward to a safer, more welcoming environment around Neuss's town hall. For the most up-to-date information on specific measures and proposals by CDU and SPD, it would be advisable to check the latest official city council documents, press releases from the local branches, or reports from local news sources covering the town hall area.

The city administration plans to expand prevention and counseling offers to address drug-related issues more effectively, focusing on both enforcement and social support. Healthcare, including drug consumption, falls under Rhein-Kreis Neuss's policy-and-legislation responsibility, with a strong stance against public drug consumption.
