Plane Crash in Pinzgau Forest: Four Fatalities Reported

In an unfortunate incident that took place on Saturday, a single-engine light aircraft crashed near the Krimmler Waterfalls in Austria, resulting in the tragic loss of four lives. The victims were identified as a 70-year-old man from Ebersberg district, a 33-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both from Regensburg, and a 59-year-old pilot from Markt Schwaben in Upper Bavaria. The exact cause of the crash remains undisclosed.

The aircraft took off from Oberschleißheim airport near Munich, bound for the Krimmler Waterfalls. However, due to the crash in an impassable forest area near the waterfalls, the plane caught fire, causing a significant blaze at the scene. The fire department was called to the operation, with over 70 personnel attending to extinguish both the plane fire and a small forest fire caused by the crash.

Authorities have reported that the weather conditions at the time were good. To determine the exact cause of the accident, an expert has been called in, and their findings are pending. The wreckage of the aircraft, severely damaged by the fire, has been secured for further investigation, although no details about the securing process have been provided.

The Public Prosecutor's Office Salzburg has ordered autopsies of all victims, but the results have not been disclosed. No information is available about the status of the victims' autopsies either. It is currently unclear whether the aircraft's recovery system was deployed during the incident, but there are no indications to suggest otherwise.

Part of the operation involved extinguishing the burning wreckage and surrounding terrain, as well as securing potential explosives. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident.
