Delta Airlines Incident in Mexico City: Plane Aborts Takeoff After Near Miss

In a recent series of incidents involving Delta Airlines, another event has raised safety concerns. On Sunday, at 3:01 pm CST, a Delta plane (DL1830) bound for Guatemala City aborted takeoff after nearly landing on top of another aircraft in Mexico City.

The incident involved 192 passengers, along with two pilots and four flight attendants. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries for the crew or passengers on the flight. After the incident, passengers were quickly accommodated on a different aircraft, causing a delay of over three hours from the original scheduled arrival time.

This is not the first incident for Delta Airlines in recent months. In Atlanta, a previous incident occurred where a Delta plane made contact with an unoccupied plane while being pushed back from the gate. However, no additional details about this incident have been disclosed yet.

The Mexico City incident is one of several recent incidents involving Delta Airlines. In early 2025, a Delta Connection crash occurred in Toronto, involving an Endeavor Air-operated flight for Delta. The plane flipped on the runway and caught fire, leading to lawsuits alleging pilot negligence and inadequate training. Investigations by Canadian authorities are still ongoing and will not conclude until next year.

On August 1, 2025, a Delta flight experienced severe turbulence, leading to 25 hospitalizations. Passengers described it as a violent roller-coaster drop with sudden impacts and flying objects inside the cabin. The FAA and NTSB are investigating this incident.

On July 18, 2025, a Delta regional jet narrowly avoided a mid-air collision with a U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber near Minot, North Dakota. The Delta pilot had to maneuver aggressively to avoid the bomber, highlighting potential shortcomings in air traffic control coordination near military bases.

A Boeing 757-200 on August 1, 2025, experienced engine problems on a flight from Atlanta to Chicago Midway.

The Toronto crash investigation has not yet determined a single cause but points to concerns about pilot experience and procedure adherence. The turbulence and near-miss incidents indicate possible issues with weather challenges and airspace coordination, rather than intrinsic airline faults. However, legal and regulatory scrutiny has increased, focusing on pilot training, supervision, and controls around military and commercial flight operations.

Delta Airlines has apologised for the experience and delay in travel caused by these incidents. Investigations are ongoing to determine the definitive causes and to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

  1. The recent Delta Airlines incident in Mexico City, involving a near miss during takeoff, falls under the category of general news, alongside other safety concerns that have arisen with the airline in recent months.
  2. Amidst these incidents, one can find instances of accidents such as the severe turbulence experience on a Delta flight in August 2025, which resulted in 25 hospitalizations, and the engine problem on a Boeing 757-200 in August 2025, adding to the sports of aviation that Delta Airlines has been participating in lately.
