Get ready for a cultural revolution in Frankfurt! The state of Hesse and the city have collaborated on a clever solution to bring the Frankfurt Cultural Campus to life on the old university site, as declared by the municipality and the Hessian Ministry of Culture. On Monday (17th March), Minister President Boris Rhein (CDU), Mayor Mike Josef (SPD), Minister of Culture Timon Gremmels (SPD), and Cultural Commissioner Ina Hartwig (SPD) will divulge the details at a gathering in the Bockenheimer Depot.
The notion of a Cultural Campus can be traced back to 2010, a shared vision birthed between then Finance Minister Karlheinz Weimar and former Frankfurt Mayor Petra Roth (both CDU). The city purchased the old university district in the Bockenheim district from the state for around 70 million euros in 2011. Until now, the Cultural Campus had merely reached preliminary planning stages.
