Plaid and Graphene Nanoworks team up to revolutionize industrial coatings with graphene

Plaid Technologies Inc. has announced a new partnership with Graphene Nanoworks Ltd. (GNW) to explore graphene-based coatings. The collaboration, revealed on 23 January 2026 in Vancouver, will focus on improving water resistance and durability in industrial materials. Both companies will assess market opportunities in glass and metal applications together.

The joint effort will evaluate graphene-enabled technologies for large-scale industrial use. Key areas include architectural glass, transportation, industrial machinery, and specialty metals. The goal is to enhance water repellency, strength, and lifespan in these materials.

Plaid’s strategy targets well-established but underserved markets with advanced graphene solutions. As part of the agreement, the two firms will conduct a detailed market study of global glass and coatings industries. They will also test the commercial viability and technical readiness of graphene-based films, membranes, and protective coatings. Guy Bourgeois, CEO and Director of Plaid Technologies, oversaw the announcement. The partnership aims to bring graphene’s benefits—such as improved durability and functional performance—to a wider range of industrial products.

The collaboration between Plaid and GNW will determine how graphene coatings can meet industry demands. If successful, the technologies could be applied to glass, metal, and other surfaces in major sectors. The findings will guide future development and commercialisation efforts.
