Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Sustains Minor Injury During Pittsburgh Steelers Training Camp

Aaron Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers' veteran quarterback, experienced a minor injury during the team's final training camp practice against the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 12, 2025. The incident occurred when Rodgers was stepped on by offensive tackle Troy Fautanu, resulting in a cut or scrape on his left foot/ankle area, rather than a significant calf injury [1][3][4].

Initially, there were reports of scratches on Rodgers' right shin from training camp [6], but it was his left leg that was affected during the incident [7]. Despite the injury, Rodgers continued practicing, including 11-on-11 reps, and participated in subsequent team drills, indicating the injury was not serious [1][3]. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin characterized the injury as nothing “of any significance” [3].

Rodgers was seen massaging his calf and stretching it during individual drills, but he managed to keep moving around well, albeit not as fluid while throwing immediately after the incident [1]. Team trainers applied a bag of ice and a bandage-like wrap to the affected area, but they later removed the ice [1].

Following the incident, Rodgers expressed displeasure with his new helmet, the Schutt Air XP Pro VTD II, stating it looks like a spaceship [2]. Interestingly, this helmet model is older than Rodgers himself [5]. Rodgers is also reportedly in the process of finding a more suitable helmet, as he mentioned that the face mask of his new helmet doesn't fit properly due to its old design [2].

It is worth noting that Rodgers' previous helmet, the Schutt Air XP Pro Q11 LTD, is no longer sanctioned due to not meeting the league's safety standards [8]. The accidental stepping on of Rodgers' lower leg occurred during a bull rush by rookie Derrick Harmon [4].

Despite the minor setback, Rodgers returned to the drill without missing a rep, demonstrating his resilience and determination. As the season approaches, fans and teammates alike will be eager to see Rodgers back on the field, leading the Packers to victory.
