Pittsburgh braces for 55 mph gusts as wind advisory takes effect Friday
A wind advisory has been issued for the Pittsburgh region, covering western Pennsylvania, parts of eastern Ohio, and the West Virginia panhandle. The warning runs from 8 a.m. to midnight on Friday, with strong gusts expected throughout the day.
Southwest winds of 15 to 25 mph will sweep through the area, with gusts reaching up to 55 mph. These conditions could knock down tree limbs, scatter loose objects, and trigger power outages. In response, Duquesne Light has boosted staffing levels to handle any disruptions quickly.
Skies will remain cloudy, with a slight chance of light snow and rain north of Pittsburgh. South of the city, conditions are forecast to stay dry. Temperatures will hover in the mid-40s by noon, climbing to the low-50s later in the day.
Duquesne Light has advised residents to prepare for possible outages. Recommendations include charging electronic devices and gathering emergency supplies ahead of time.
The advisory remains in effect until midnight on Friday. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and stay alert for falling debris. Utility crews are on standby to restore power if needed.
