New Pirelli Calendar Unveiled in Prague - Pirelli’s 2022 ‘On the Road’ Calendar Unveils Surreal Portraits of Iconic Women
The 52nd edition of the prestigious Pirelli Calendar was unveiled in Prague, showcasing a diverse group of 11 women from various fields. This year's calendar, titled 'On the Road', is a surreal exploration of nature and intangible forces, captured by Norwegian photographer Sølve Sundsbø.
Sundsbø, whose passion for photography was ignited on ski slopes, began the project in April along England's coasts, capturing raw nature. He then moved to studios in London and New York to create surreal portraits using massive LED screens as backdrops.
The calendar features veterans Susie Cave and Eva Herzigová, who have posed for Pirelli in previous years. They are joined by an impressive lineup including Oscar winner Tilda Swinton, tennis legend Venus Williams, and Hollywood icon Isabella Rossellini. Chinese model and actress Du Juan, who was featured in the 2008 calendar, also makes a return, alongside Puerto Rican actress Adria Arjona. British actress Gwendoline Christie and Russian supermodel Irina Shayk round out the list of remarkable women.
Sundsbø staged the women as embodiments of natural elements and intangible forces. He placed Herzigová and Cave directly in water, crafted a miniature world for Swinton, and engaged in lengthy discussions with FKA twigs for her unique portrayal.
The 2022 Pirelli Calendar, 'On the Road', is a striking blend of surrealism and nature, showcasing the diversity and strength of its featured women. Sundsbø's unique vision and technical prowess have created a calendar that is both visually stunning and thought-provoking.
