Leak Fixed - 30,000 Households Regain District Heating - Pipeline rupture leaves 30,000 homes without heating after construction mishap

A district heating pipeline suffered major damage after an excavator struck it, causing a significant leak. The incident left around 30,000 households without proper heating, including homes in nearby Schwetzingen. Residents were initially kept warm by residual heat in the system.

The leak occurred when construction work accidentally ruptured the pipeline. Engineers worked through the night to fix the damage, completing repairs by early morning. Despite the quick fix, officials warned that it would take time for heat to fully return to all affected properties.

Residents were urged to close doors and windows to retain warmth. They were also advised to limit hot water use until the system stabilised. Stadtwerke Heidelberg confirmed that full service should be restored by the end of the day.

The disruption affected thousands of homes, but repairs were carried out swiftly. Heat is gradually returning to the system, though some delays may persist. Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure a stable supply.
