PinkPantheress Releases New Mixtape titled 'Fancy That'
In just a whopping few short years since crashing onto the pop music scene, British singer PinkPantheress has shot up the Billboard Hot 100 chart and dished out a tasty string of projects, from her 2021 mixtape To Hell With It to her 2023 debut album Heaven Knows. Now, she's back with her sophomore mixtape Fancy That, where she keeps on experimenting with new influences and carving her own path in an industry that loves to pigeonhole her.
Giving us a sneak peek of the album last month, PinkPantheress dropped "Tonight," her latest tune to crack the top 40 on the Hot 100. On Fancy That, she dishes out the ups and downs of relationships with tracks like "Girl Like Me" and "Nice to Know You," and takes a break to cut a rug and have a ball on "Noises" and "Romeo." She even gives a shoutout to To Hell With It on "Stars" by sampling Just Jack's 2007 release "Starz in Their Eyes," just like she did on her 2021 track "Attracted to You."
To help create the party, PinkPantheress dipped her toes in the past, checking out classic British dance and electronic acts like Basement Jaxx, Groove Armada, and Fatboy Slim. "I bloody loved the size of the music," she spilled to Mixmag about these old-school inspirations. "All the music sounds so big and grand and present, and I absolutely fucking wanted to make music where it sounds like a statement is being made with the songs. I feel like that was what appealed to me, and it's something I bloody wanted to take on board."
When it comes to her spot in the music world as an artist with a one-of-a-kind sound and brains for fame, PinkPantheress won't let a bloody load of BS get to her.
"A whole lot of my career has been people blabbing their perception of me rather than me saying who I am," she said. "Being a 'popstar' or being in the bloody public eye can definitely make you lose your damn self. I'm somebody who knows myself down to the bone, but I'm telling you, being a singer makes it so easy to egg yourself on about what people think or want to hear and it makes you lose parts of your damn beginnings."
