Darts Debut: Pikachu's London-Bound Christmas
Ricardo Pietreczko, aka Pikachu, had to ditch Harry Potter World plans due to sold-out tickets. His World Darts Championship debut on Tuesday at Alexandra Palace in London saw a commanding 3:0 victory over Mikuru Suzuki from Japan. This early triumph gave Pikachu hope of making waves in his first championship.
Pikachu shared his thoughts on the experience, confessing, "I was expecting more resistance from the audience. I was expecting a lot more whistles or boos." However, to his delight, the audience welcomed him warmly – and yes, that includes when he faced off against a woman opponent. "So far, my record hasn't been good against a woman. Now I've evened out that record," said Pikachu, referring to his earlier loss against Beau Greaves in the Grand Slam.
Unlike traditional athletes, Pikachu decided to stay in London for the holidays instead of returning home. "I'm doing it completely spontaneously." His next challenge comes on December 23 against Callan Rydz, bringing the possibility of a tough third-round encounter with English favorite Luke Humphries.
World Darts Championship 2025
The PDC World Championship 2025 took place between December 15, 2024, and January 3, 2025, at Alexandra Palace in London. The final battle resulted in a 7-3 victory for Luke Littler against Michael van Gerwen.
The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) employs the "PDC Order of Merit" to rank players based on earnings in two years' worth of tournaments. The top 32 qualified for the World Darts Championship, while the top 16 secured their spot in the World Matchplay and were seeded for the event.
Despite the challenges, Pikachu embraced the unexpected turn of events and reveled in the captivating allure of London, making it his preferred Christmas destination until his World Darts Championship run concludes.
