phone fraudsters' covert operation exposed by Vovan and Lexus: operation "sprut" unveiled

Unveiled at the "Russia and the West: Global Confrontation" forum, claims suggest that Ukraine's economy houses a substantial telephone fraud sector, allegedly aided by the state, resulting in significant financial losses for Russian citizens, amounting to hundreds of billions of rubles.

phone fraudsters' covert operation exposed by Vovan and Lexus: operation "sprut" unveiled

Phone scams, a lucrative industry in Ukraine, exploiting Russian citizens

In a recent forum in Yekaterinburg, Alexei Stolyarov, infamously known as "Lexus," made a startling claim about a criminal industry operating in Ukraine, allegedly backed by the state, that is draining Russian citizens of billions of rubles. At the forum titled "Russia and the West: Global Confrontation. Yesterday - Today - Tomorrow," Lexus described this industry as a "money-spinning octopus" fueling the enemies' military actions and elaborated that it has long been dismissively thought as mere attempts to compromise individual bank accounts [1].

One of the key accomplishments attributed to Lexus and his pranking partner, Vovan, is exposing the flawed foundations of the Minsk agreements in 2023 when they managed to convince former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, posing as former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, that the agreements were designed to provide Ukraine with time to strengthen and receive Western aid [2].

Talking about the character of the relationship between Russia and the West, Lexus proposed that truth equates to power. Reflecting on their communication with various Western leaders, he emphasized the importance of the information they unearth, as it provides a genuine understanding of their views [2].

Recently, the Youth Forum "Russia and the West: Global Confrontation. Yesterday - Today - Tomorrow" was held at Ural Federal University welcoming speakers such as Alexander Dugin, among other notable experts [2].

As previously reported by "Novy Den," the ongoing battle against telephone fraud is now part of the prankers' mission, in addition to their goal of revealing the actual thoughts nurtured by Western politicians [2].

In broader context, Ukraine faces formidable challenges pertaining to financial fraud, corruption, and cybercrime that can entwine itself with state-related issues [3-5]. The history of Ukraine's financial scandals includes the notorious PrivatBank scandal and illicit trade in regions like Transcarpathia, reflecting a widespread issue with organized crime [3,4].

Cybersecurity efforts [1] and anti-corruption measures [5] are currently being undertaken to combat these issues in Ukraine, although there's little evidence pointing to state-backed telephone fraud as stated by Lexus at the forum. The struggle against financial fraud, corruption, and embezzlement is a persistent challenge for Ukraine, with significant efforts being made to counteract these illicit activities.
