Philippines declares Code White Alert for Holy Week 2026 safety

The Department of Health (DOH) has announced a Code White Alert nationwide from March 30 to April 6, 2026. This measure coincides with Holy Week, which runs from March 29 to April 5, covering Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday. Authorities are urging the public to follow safety precautions during the holiday period. Under the Code White Alert, all DOH hospitals will keep their emergency rooms, health teams, and medical supplies on 24/7 standby. The move aims to ensure rapid response to any health emergencies that may arise during the busy holiday.

The DOH has also issued guidelines to help people stay safe in the heat. Residents are advised to drink **seven to eight glasses of clean water daily** to avoid dehydration. Wearing **loose, light-coloured clothing** is recommended, along with avoiding direct sun exposure between **9 a.m. and 4 p.m.**—the hottest hours of the day. While the alert covers the entire country, the DOH has not released details on how many hospitals will be directly involved in the heightened preparedness measures.

The Code White Alert remains in effect until April 6, extending slightly beyond Holy Week. The DOH's precautions focus on preventing heat-related illnesses and ensuring medical readiness. Residents are encouraged to follow the guidelines to reduce health risks during the holiday.
