Philippines Caps Gold Medal Performance at World Tilting Championships

🏋️‍♀️ PHILIPPINES WINS TEN GOLD MEDALS IN LIMA WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS! 🏆

Manila - The Filipino weightlifting squad took Lima, Peru by storm at the International Weightlifting Federation Youth and Junior World Championships, bagging an impressive 10 gold medals on May 2, 2025, thanks to powerhouse performances from Jhodie Peralta and Albert Ian delos Santos.

Jhodie Peralta stole the spotlight in the Women's 55kg Youth division, absolutely crushing the competition by winning gold in all three categories: snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift. 🏅

Meanwhile, Delos Santos, who placed fourth in the snatch, came back with a vengeance in the clean and jerk and total competitions, securing gold in both for the Junior Men's 67kg category. 🥇

Supporting this gold rush were Jay-R Colonia, Alexsandra Ann Diaz, and Althea Bacaro, who netted five gold medals last Thursday.

Colonia made quite an entrance in his first international tournament, winning two golds (clean and jerk, total) and a silver (snatch) in the Men's Youth 49kg category. 🥈🥇🥇

Diaz, niece of Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz, topped the Women's Youth 45kg snatch and total competitions, and earned a bronze in the clean and jerk.

Bacaro, just 13, conquered the Women's Youth 40kg snatch category and took silver in total and the bronze in clean and jerk.

Angeline Colonia scored silver (snatch) and the bronze (total) in the Junior Women's 45kg division, despite finishing fourth in the clean and jerk.

Prince Keil Delos Santos, from Angono, Rizal, fought valiantly but ended up fourth in snatch and total, and sixth in clean and jerk in the Junior Men's 55kg category.

Rosalinda Faustino, also from Zamboanga City, was disqualified in the Junior Women's 49kg category due to weight requirements.

The Youth division is for athletes age 13 to 17, while the Junior division is for competitors aged 15 to 20.

The coaches accompanying the athletes were Antonio Agustin, Gregorio Colonia, Diwa Delos Santos, and Christopher Bureros, representing Zamboanga City, and Cebu City respectively.

Philippine Weightlifting Association (SWP) president Monico Puentevella took pride in the team's performance, highlighting their consistent Olympic qualifications over the past five Games.

"Winning these 10 golds in this world competition, which includes powerhouse China, simply means we're on the right track again. Thanks to these new young heroes led by Ian de los Santos," Puentevella said. / PNA
