Philippines braces for shifting weather as new system brews in the east

Fair weather is set to continue across the Philippines in the first week of January 2026. However, the state weather bureau has warned of possible changes as a new system forms in the east. Residents are advised to stay alert for sudden rain and shifting conditions.

As of 27 December 2025, PAGASA reported no active weather disturbances. Skies remained mostly clear, with only the usual easterly winds bringing isolated afternoon or evening showers.

On 1 January 2026, the bureau spotted a developing low-pressure area (LPA) in the eastern Philippines. Forecasters warned it could slowly strengthen into a tropical depression over time. Eastern Visayas and Bicol were placed under watch for increased rainfall and rougher seas. Despite the LPA’s potential growth, widespread fair weather is still expected. The easterlies may trigger scattered thunderstorms in some areas, particularly later in the day. PAGASA urged the public to carry umbrellas, avoid prolonged exposure to rain, and check official updates regularly.

The first week of January will likely see a mix of clear skies and brief downpours. While no immediate storm threat exists, the LPA’s progress could alter local conditions. Residents should prepare for sudden rain and follow PAGASA’s advisories closely.
