Philippines braces for scorching heat and afternoon thunderstorms on Monday
The Philippines will experience warm and humid weather on Monday, with no major disturbances expected. Temperatures will climb across the country, while scattered thunderstorms may develop later in the day. Authorities have issued forecasts for high heat indices in several regions.
No weather disturbances are currently inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. A ridge of high pressure will influence Northern Luzon over the next two to three days. Meanwhile, easterly winds will affect the Visayas and Mindanao during the same period.
The highest temperatures on Monday will reach 36°C in Tuguegarao and 34°C in Davao and Zamboanga. Heat indices could peak at 40°C in San Jose (Occidental Mindoro), Dagupan City (Pangasinan), La Granja (La Carlota, Negros Occidental), and Zamboanga City (Zamboanga del Sur). Metro Manila may also see heat indices between 36°C and 37°C. Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas are expected across the archipelago. However, localised thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon and evening, bringing brief but heavy downpours. PAGASA has not specified how many regions will be directly affected by the easterly winds in the coming days.
Residents should prepare for hot conditions, particularly in areas with extreme heat indices. Afternoon storms could bring sudden rain, though overall weather remains stable. The public is advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related risks.
