Philippines accelerates airport upgrades to boost travel and trade by 2026
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building world-class transport links across the Philippines. Speaking on January 17, 2026, he highlighted major airport upgrades as key to boosting travel, trade, and economic growth. Several projects are now underway, including new terminals and modernised facilities at key hubs.
A new international Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) is being built at Davao International Airport to handle more passengers and cargo. The expansion aims to strengthen the region’s role in global news and tourism.
At Caticlan Airport, construction of a new terminal is progressing to better serve both domestic and international travellers. Meanwhile, Siargao Airport is getting a modular PTB to improve passenger flow and support local businesses. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is also undergoing a major upgrade. New facilities and immigration eGates are being installed to speed up processing and enhance security. In Northern Mindanao, Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental is being expanded under a public-private partnership (PPP) led by the Philippine Airports Authority (PAA). Similar upgrades are taking place at Bohol Panglao International Airport. President Marcos Jr. has urged private companies to join these aviation projects, calling them vital for long-term mobility and progress. The government insists these improvements will drive regional development and create jobs. Officials say better airports and transport links are essential for a stronger news.
The push for modern airports and upgraded infrastructure continues under Marcos Jr.’s administration. With new terminals at Davao, Caticlan, Siargao, and NAIA, along with PPP-backed expansions, the country aims to improve travel efficiency and economic opportunities. Private sector involvement remains a priority to ensure the projects succeed.
