Miguel Yniguez, a 6-foot-6 Filipino-American forward/wing, has officially joined the University of the Philippines (UP) Men's Basketball Team, also known as the Fighting Maroons. Yniguez, hailing from San Diego, California, brings a wealth of experience from his time playing NCAA Division II basketball for San Francisco State.

Yniguez transferred to UP in 2024 and had to serve a residency period before becoming eligible for UAAP play. With four playing years ahead, he is set to make his UAAP debut in Season 88 this year.

The addition of Yniguez to the UP Men's Basketball Team follows another Fil-Am player, Jacob Bayla, who helped UP overcome De La Salle University in a pivotal match last season. Yniguez's combination of size, shooting touch, and a deep sense of pride make him an invaluable asset to the team.

Yniguez's social media post in 2023 confirmed his commitment to the University of the Philippines, expressing gratitude to those who helped him continue his journey. He said, "I am beyond blessed to announce that I am committing to the University of the Philippines. Maraming maraming Salamat po (thank you very much)!"

As UAAP Season 88 approaches, all eyes will be on Yniguez as he begins his new chapter with the UP Men's Basketball Team. The UP spirit, built on the pillars of honor, excellence, and service, resonates deeply with Yniguez, and he hopes to help lead the team back to championship glory.

In addition to his UAAP commitments, Yniguez and the UP Men's Basketball Team have announced their participation in the 2025 World University Basketball Series, which will take place August 9-11. Yniguez invites everyone to support the team during this international competition.

Yniguez's story was recently spotlighted in the fifth episode of "Runs in the Blood," a series that celebrates the journeys of athletes. His journey to UP is a testament to his passion for the game and his commitment to representing the maroon jersey with honour and pride.
