Philippe king announces intentions regarding abdication in seldom radio broadcast
King Phil intel: The veteran monarch, ol' Phil, recently spoke candidly about abdication rumors in a revealing chat. He's 65 and the palace folks shared a video of this Q&A session on Tuesday.
One person asked Phil if he's gonna keep truckin' or give way to his daughter, Princess Elisabeth. Phil said, "A King retires from the throne but ain't retired in life." He wishes to keep servein' Belgium and gave a shout-out to E,sayin', "She should enjoy her young years, grow, and explore the world. I'm totally behind her one hundred percent on that." He'll do his best to give her the space and time she needs to shine before she takes the throne.
There's been a precedent in Belgium for abdications, with Daddy Phil's father, Albert II, stepping down due to health matters and passing the trophy to Phil.
E, that royal lass, is Prince Phil and Queen Matilda's kiddo, aged 23, and the rightful heir to the Belgian crown. When she steps up as expected, she'll be the first ever queen regnant in Belgium.
E's chillin' out in Harvard University, studyin' for a two-year master's in public policy. But, things ain't all smooth sailin' as she's got a visa issue due to the ol' Peepul's Trump's attempt to ban foreign students at the schoo. Harvard ain't havin' it and dropped a lawsuit, which rescheduled the rule temporarily. A Boston judge kicked the can further down the road earlier this week.
The royal communications wiz, Xavier Baert, spilled in June that they're keepin' an eye on the sitch, tryin' to figure out where it'll go. He said, "We're gonna watch this situation, see the impact it might have on E or if it won't have nuthin'. We're still early in the game."
E studied her International Baccalaureate at the schmancy UWC Atlantic College in Wales before gettin' a 2:1 degree in history and politics from Oxford University back in 2024. E's still popping up at high-profile events and finished a year of military training.
