PhilHealth Expands Z Benefit to Include Orthopedic Services for Cebu Earthquake Victims

Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo of the Department of Health (DOH) revealed during a national health fair in Manila that PhilHealth has expanded its Z benefit package to include orthopedic services for victims of the magnitude 6.9 earthquake in Cebu on September 30. This approval comes as the DOH steps up its response to the mental health needs of those affected.

The DOH has taken the initiative to address mental health concerns in Cebu. A Mental Health and Psychosocial Service team will be deployed on a rotational basis to provide support. Additionally, the DOH has sent extra specialists to Cebu to bolster mental health services.

The PhilHealth Board of Directors approved the expansion of the Z benefit package on Friday, October 6. This expansion ensures that medical expenses, including costs for implants, will be covered for victims until the state of calamity is lifted. The zero balance billing policy is currently in effect at three hospitals in Cebu province.

The DOH and PhilHealth have collaborated to provide comprehensive care for Cebu earthquake victims. Mental health services have been bolstered, and orthopedic services are now covered under the Z benefit package. This expansion aims to ensure that victims receive the necessary medical care until the state of calamity is lifted.
