Philadelphia braces for weekend snowstorm after brief warmth

A sharp weather shift is set to hit the Philadelphia area and southern Pennsylvania this weekend. After warm conditions on Saturday, a snowstorm will sweep through, bringing heavy snowfall and plunging temperatures by Sunday morning.

Temperatures will climb to 38 degrees on Saturday, with overnight lows around 26. But the warmth will be short-lived. A snowstorm is forecast to move in, with the heaviest snow expected between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday. Lancaster County and surrounding areas, including Millersville, could see up to 2 inches of snow, with some spots receiving 3-4 inches. The storm should taper off by midday Saturday.

After a brief break, scattered snow showers may return on Sunday morning between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. Temperatures will drop sharply, with Sunday’s high reaching just 33 degrees and lows falling to 19. Friday night will already feel the chill, with readings dipping to 28 degrees. Meteorologist Kyle Elliott from Millersville University has warned residents to prepare for rapidly changing conditions, particularly during Saturday’s peak snowfall hours.

The storm will leave behind colder air, with Sunday’s highs struggling to reach above freezing. Travel could be disrupted by lingering snow, especially in areas with higher accumulations. Residents are advised to monitor updates as the system develops.
