Pheu Thai Calls on Minister to Act Against Online Crime After Bribe Offer
Pheu Thai Party has called on Digital Economy and Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob to address online crime, warning of potential accusations of dereliction of duty if he fails to act. Chaichanok has revealed that he was offered a bribe of 40 million baht per month to ignore call centre syndicates, online scams, and illegal websites in Thailand.
The party-list MP Danuporn Punnakanta cautioned Chaichanok that his inaction could lead to a perception of being 'a minister who talks tough but delivers nothing'. Korkaew Pikulthong, another Pheu Thai MP, raised concerns about the appointment of ministers linked to Bhumjaithai Party's Buri Ram power base. Chaichanok, acknowledging his lack of political experience, vowed to take decisive action in tackling cybercrime in Thailand.
The offer was made by individuals through a member of parliament before Chaichanok took office. Chaichanok claimed he was offered over 40 million baht a month to refrain from pursuing action against the criminal activities in Thailand. However, there is no public information available to confirm this claim.
Pheu Thai Party urges Chaichanok to act against online crime, with MP Danuporn warning of potential accusations if he fails to do so. Chaichanok has acknowledged a bribe offer but vows to take decisive action in tackling cybercrime in Thailand.
